Working Purpose: to serve as a platform for student research and reporting on issues critical to international business.
Working Vision Quest: what are the most pressing issues affecting our lives in the international business arena?

a. Ownership risk ranges from property title uncertainty, property line encroachment, squatting, and even government expropriations such as capital levies and unexpected export or excise taxes.
i. the risk of a claim from a previously dispossessed owner
ii. the risk that the current owner will be dispossessed.
b. Operation risk appears to be one of the main risks that companies can actually do something about
i. defined by the Bank for International Settlement (BIS) as “the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal process, people and systems or from external events.”
ii. can include differences in language, cultures, accounting methods, and data entry between different branches of a company, located across the globe.
c. Transfer risk occurs when debtors in a country are unable to ensure timely payments of foreign currency debt service due to transfer or exchange restrictions, or a general lack of foreign currency.
i. Transfer risk can range from governmental regulations that restrict the flow of dollars to governments taking over funds or industries, to civil disturbances that make it impossible for borrowers or lenders to make wire transfers or send mail.
d. Global business risk has many sources:
i. corruption and bribery
ii. unstable political systems
iii. excess involvement of military or religious leaders in government
iv. internal conflict among ethnic and religious groups
v. unstable relations with other nations.

The School of Business deploys a “flipped class” modality of instruction, meaning students gain assigned content prior to class sessions, then process the pre-class learnings via in-class activities.
Prior to the assigned class session, each team member will search the Internet and develop a comprehensive list of current issues regarding the assigned topic. Please adhere to the following format:
• Operational Definition
• Comprehensive List
o The resource citation (must be within the past 6 months)
o Type of online resource: White papers, Book reviews, Journal/article reviews, Current events reviews, Blogs, websites, etc.
o A brief overview of the contents
o How it relates to any combination of the 4 media project goals:

Topic : The rise of Populism
Each team, using the results of the discussion regarding individual member research, will create a written report of 2 pages of content (excluding the title page, abstract, and references) on the specific topical area assigned for the session.
The report will synthesize the in-class discussion, adhering to the following format (APA):

 Abstract(don’t need )
 Introduction to the topical area (half page)
 Synthesis of Team-Member Findings (half page)
